Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time with Victory Neighbourhood Services Inc! We are currently not looking for volunteers to help us with our Child and Youth Counselling Program.
If you are interested, please send an email to vns.admininstration@victoryneighbourhoodservices.ca including your name, contact information, and resume. We will get back to you in the event that we are looking for more volunteers.
Please note that our volunteer positions are remote positions, therefore a reliable internet access with webcam and microphone is required.
We offer a safe place to talk, seek mental health resources, or to receive ongoing counselling.
Volunteers will provide counselling by appointment. It is required that throughout the duration of the shift, the volunteer maintains internet access and are alert and available at a moment's notice.
For each shift, a member of the Child and Youth Counselling team will be on call if there is any technical issues, an emergency, or if the volunteer requires any assistance or support.
Victory Neighbourhood Services Inc. usually conducts an annual in-person basketball summer camp for child and youth throughout the month of July and August. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have adapted and made necessary changes to provide to the children and youth despite social distancing and lock down.
Victory Virtual Basketball is a virtual basketball workshop program that is held on Wednesdays and Fridays every week from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm via Zoom. During this hour, our head basketball coach leads children and youth through a variety of exercises and basketball drills and skill training.
The volunteer role would include helping the head basketball coach to conduct these workshops and potentially being paired with a participant in working on their skills individually.
The administrative department is the foundation of all that we do at Victory Neighbourhood Services Inc. They are responsible for coordinating all of the other departments to ensure that everything is running smoothly. Our administrative team works closely alongside Veronica Vernon, our Executive Director, to scheduling, answer inquiries and allocate funding.
This position will supply volunteers with administrative experience that is useful in every position, such as organization, communication skills, and professionalism.
Another crucial aspect of our organization is the technical aspect. As the organization currently works from home, the majority of our functioning happens online. It is because of this that the maintenance and updating of our online platforms, such as the website, our emails and our phone line is so important. In addition to this, our social media is the main way we communicate with the public.
In this position, volunteers will be working alongside our head technical administrator to develop eye-catching posts, update our website, and maintain our phone line and email software.
Please provide examples of designs you have created!
Victory Neighbourhood Services Inc. is a non-profit charity, which means that we rely mainly on donations and grants to operate. A huge part of this is searching for suitable grant opportunities and applying for them in a timely manner.
This position will entail working alongside our other departments and grant writers in order to write the grant applications accurately and cohesively. This position allows volunteers the opportunity to develop their writing skills. Note that this position’s hours are flexible.
VNS is looking to fund raise a new community space that we can use to help facilitate our programs and provide a safe and supportive environment for the children and youth in the Durham region.
